Getting to your destination,  What to do

Caye Caulker – One of my favorite destinations ever

This truly is an amazing island. Caye Caulker is a place I didn’t have the need to do a whole lot, but I’ll tell you a couple of things to do on the island.

The Great Blue Hole, one of Belize top attractions.
The Discovery Channel ranked he Great Blue Hole as number one on its list “The 10 Most amazing places on earth”.

Snorkel with nurse sharks
Only 5 minutes with boat off the island, you can swim with nurse sharks. How cool is that?!

Enjoy the day at the Split
This is probably Caye Caulkers most famous spot. This is where people hang out and have a drink right by the water or in the water.

Relax by the sea
Caye Caulker doesn’t have long, sandy beaches but there are several places by the sea you can enjoy.

Eat the best food ever
I must say, the food at Caye Caulker is my favorite so far. We ate at Reinas several times, cause the food is incredible.

How to get to Caye Caulker

There are different ways to get to Caye Caulker:

Airplane
Speed boats

I loved getting there by a speed boat. If you can get a seat outside, you’ll be able to enjoy a fun trip in the sun, while cruising the crystal clear water. However, if you want to save time or don’t like boats, it’s possible to fly in. It’s a bit more expensive and not as fun as the boat, but it’s possible.

It depends on where you’re coming from, I arrived from Chetumal Mexico, but heres two of the speed boats companies that can take you to Caye Caulker. I used both of them:

San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi

Water Jets International

These two companies go every other day, which means there’s one departure a day. Personally, I liked the Water Jets International better. They were more professional and had a nicer boat. On the other hand, if you want to start the party early, go for San Pedro Water Taxi. On our ride, they handed out free beers.

We got our tickets to Caye Caulker at the bus station in Chetumal. Really convenient. He also wrote down the name of the harbour, so the taxi driver knew where to take us. People usually speak a little English in the Cancun area, but that’s not the case in Chetumal.

For our way back, we got our tickets the day before, just to make sure we had the right time, day and location.

Where to stay

There are plenty of places to stay and different arrangements for you to choose from. Like most places, there are hotels, backpacker hostels and airbnbs. You can either book beforehand or find a place when arriving. I really wanted a nice place to stay, so I didnt want to risk it, I booked before going. I found this amazing place at airbnb. Its a bit expensive, but if you want a nice place to stay, I really recommend “The Dive House Penthouse”. Amazing place!

I’ll tell you a funny story. The apartment is divided into two main rooms and we were just so excited about the bedroom, bathroom and the balconies, that we didn’t even realize that we hadn’t seen the entire apartment yet, until the next day! My friend was obviously wondering about were the kitchen and living room was, so she tried to open the other main door from the hallway and found the other half of the apartment. We were laughing so hard. We were just happy with the beautiful and spacious bedroom, that we, at least I, weren’t even missing the other part of the apartment.

The apartment was beautiful and decorated so nicely. The colors were lovely, and the place makes you want to move in. We enjoyed the balconies both for breakfast and for the stunning sunsets. I loved the apartment.
